Elimu Yetu Coalition (EYC) held regional Civil Society organizations Conference on Education for All (CSO-EFA) during this quarter in Western, Central, North Eastern and Nairobi region on 7th-8th September, 12th-13th September, 16th -17th October and 1st – 2nd November, 2024 respectively. This year’s conference theme was ‘sustaining education reform gains in the promotion of quality and inclusion in education for enhanced learning outcomes in Kenya’.
Key among the recommendation highlighted were;
- Monitoring and streamlining issuance of birth certificates should be done
- Sensitization should be done to all community members on matters concerning education e.g. on CBC and university funding.
- Teachers service commission to consider recruiting, deploying and posting more Junior secondary school teachers in the evident having Junior Secondary School (JSS) back to the original plan isn’t possible.
- National treasury to consider increasing percentage ratio of school capitation funds in order to support education programmes and timely disbursement of the same
- There is need for government in partnership with the civil society organizations implementing education support programme to develop and conduct joint sensitization and awareness meetings targeting different stakeholders in understanding and unpacking grey areas around competency-based curriculum.
- There should be proper coordination mechanism between the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) and the Ministry of Education.
- The County Government to put in place Early Childhood Development Education policy and budgetary allocation for implementation of the same.
