This year, EYC has organised the 14th national conference on education for all since its inception. The conference presents an opportunity for stakeholders to share experiences and evidence on a selected theme, discuss challenges and develop policy recommendations for engagement with the government. The 2024 theme is: “Delivering enhanced learning outcomes through quality, equitable, inclusive and Transformative education in Kenya”
The conferences is been held against the backdrop of the release of the report of the Presidential Working party on Education Reforms (PWPER) which had been tasked to review the Competency Based Education (CBE) and other education matters across all levels. Previously, while releasing its interim report in December 2022, the working party among other things recommended the domiciling of Junior Secondary schools in Primary schools. The analysis of the PWPER has been a critical agenda in the conferences. Stakeholders have been deliberating on the content of the PWPER pertaining to the review of the CBE and other education matters across all levels. Perception have been valid with some stakeholders supporting the recommendations while others being against the same. This has formed part of the agenda of the conference given the government’s intention to implement provision of the report manifested through the release of a draft sessional paper 2024 and draft education bills 2024. The legal instruments has also been a subject of discussion during the conference.
The conference comes a time when Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning Programme (KPEEL) is being implemented. The programme targets increased access to education including for refugee communities and capacity enhancement for teachers, initiatives around ICT amongst other things. It is the first product of partnership compact. There is need to get feedback from across the country on the implementation status of KPEEL at this initial stages.
