In February and March 2025, the Coalition hosted a series of impactful Regional Conferences across Kenya’s Western, Coastal, North Eastern, and Nairobi regions. These two-day forums were designed to spotlight two critical areas: the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education, and the empowerment of adolescent girls through improved access, retention, and transition within the education system.
Day 1: Harnessing ICT for Quality Education
The first day of each conference focused on leveraging digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning outcomes in public schools. Key stakeholders—including Ministry of Education officials, teachers, ICT professionals, and civil society organizations—shared insights and experiences on the state of digital learning infrastructure.
A recurring concern was the limited access to ICT tools in many public schools, particularly in marginalized communities. A top recommendation was the establishment and full equipping of ICT laboratories in these schools to bridge the digital divide and promote equitable learning opportunities for all students.
Day 2: Advancing Girls’ Education
On the second day, attention shifted to the unique challenges faced by adolescent girls in accessing and staying in school. Discussions highlighted systemic barriers such as poverty, lack of menstrual hygiene products, early marriage, and unsafe learning environments.
Participants called for comprehensive, gender-responsive strategies—including the development of policies that support girls’ education, community engagement campaigns, mentorship programs, and school-based health and safety initiatives. These measures are essential to improve retention and ensure a smooth transition through key education levels.
A Unified Call for Inclusive Education
Throughout all regions, the conferences underscored a shared vision: that digital inclusion and gender equity in education must be pursued together. Only by addressing both can we move closer to achieving inclusive, quality education for every child in Kenya.
