Elimu Yetu Coalition on February 10th and 12th, 2025 joined key representatives in the LEGO Teach Well Voices convening held in Naivasha, Nakuru County. The event brought together influential education stakeholders—including the Ministry of Education, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), UNHCR, and UNICEF—with the primary goal of introducing and advancing the Teach Well Voices Project in Kenya.
The convening provided a vital platform for dialogue, collaboration, and strategic planning around the integration of refugee teachers into Kenya’s formal education system. Participants explored both policy and legislative pathways that could help pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable approach to education.
Central to the discussions was the recognition of refugee teachers’ potential to contribute meaningfully to Kenya’s learning environment, particularly in underserved and displacement-affected communities. Stakeholders identified several advocacy opportunities, including shaping and contributing to key legislative frameworks currently under review. These include the Basic Education Bill, the Education and Training Policy Sessional Paper, and the Teachers Service Commission Bill—each of which holds significant potential to influence how refugee teachers are recognized, accredited, and supported within the national education policy landscape.
The convening concluded with a shared commitment to continue engaging policymakers, civil society, and development partners in championing inclusive education policies that leave no teacher behind.
